Welcome to A New Day Counseling Center! You may be ready to try something different or look at your situation from a new perspective. I’m glad you're here! My name is Shlene Eli and I’m the owner and therapist at A New Day Counseling Center in Whitehouse, TX. I strive to provide children, adolescents, and adults with counseling services in a uniquely supportive and relaxed atmosphere. My main objective is to enable clients to recognize their full potential so they can be the best possible version of themselves. Offering Services to the greater Tyler, TX area from a Christian perspective while respecting diversity in spirituality, A New Day Counseling Center was named with this verse in mind:
Lamentations 3:21-23 I call this to mind and have hope: Because of the Lord’s faithful love, we do not perish, for His mercies never end. They are new every morning.
I am licensed by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. My professional journey began in 1998 when I earned my K-8 Teaching Certification while completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. I then taught fourth grade in Dallas County for 5 years. In 2005, I earned my Master’s Degree (MA) in School Counseling from the University of Texas at Tyler. I gained my Professional Counseling License in 2011, and then counseled at the University of Texas at Tyler Student Counseling Center for five years. I have over a decade of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in various settings.
With training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Play Therapy, Assessment, and Relaxation, I am able to tailor an individual’s counseling experience to their specific needs. I specialize in individual counseling and have experience treating clients with academic problems, ADHD, anxiety, behavioral problems, depression, learning disabilities, parenting issues, PTSD, relationship issues, sleeping problems, stress, test anxiety, trauma, and many other life issues.
I have been married for 17 years and have been blessed by 3 wonderful children, which has provided another facet of invaluable experience and empathy for a range of life issues. I’m a member of the American Counseling Association, Texas Counseling Association, Piney Woods Counseling Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). I absolutely love counseling, and when I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching my kids’ activities, volunteering, and traveling. I’m honored that you are visiting my website and would love to help you think of counseling in a new way.
